“Brent and I practice gender creative parenting. We didn’t assign a gender to Zoomer, we don’t disclose their sex to people who don’t need to know, and we use gender-neutral pronouns for Zoomer (they/them/their).
We actively work to provide Zoomer with an environment that celebrates their individuality. We expose them to all kinds of toys, clothes, colors, and activities and we encourage their interests and self-expression.”
The parents believe that this way of parenting has reduced the experiences with gendered stereotypes and behavior of Zoomer. So they refuse to reveal the kid’s name.
This is supposed to teach Zoomer about diversity, equality, anatomy, and justice. The parents also acknowledge the support of their families and colleagues unto this.
The parents said that they were very proud and confident about the way they were raising the baby, and they feel the responsibility for those who are interested in learning more about this unique way of parenting towards gender.
The family is based in Utah and did receive a lot of opinions on social media about their unique parenting methods, but some also accused them of using their child to gain fame.
“What is the world coming to with idiots like this!!!!” one person commented.
“Sadly, some people will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame – even using their own child. But you are correct, you didn’t assign a gender to the ridiculously named Zoomer – nature did,” another scathingly wrote.
One follower had to comment on the stance of the couple and wrote; “Doesn’t want to exploit their child…exploits all over social media?”
Yet another predicted the Theyby’s future, “I see a lot of therapy in Zoomer’s future.”
While there were people who appreciated the way this unique parenting went on.
“Omg so much hate on here. They are amazing parents and I think their child ‘TheyBy’ is very lucky that his/her parents refuse to reveal the gender,” one follower wrote.
“You are wonderful people and parents <3 I wouldn’t want to disclose my child’s sex either so people can force them into gendered boxes. I hope I’m half this awesome when I have little ones,” another said.
“I have 3 daughters and now a baby boy years later. I have never believed in stereotypes but then I look at what gifts they are given and how almost instinctively we raise them into these ideals. I have worked with teens for years and see various gender concerns and issues and complications and really wish society could accept it all being simple. No labels,” yet another commented.
The parents have this belief that by letting their child pick up a gender by itself and choose the kind of outfits he/she wants to wear makes it easy on the individuality, and is more fluid parenting.
The parents confirmed their ideas and for those who were unsure of it all, get it reassured. They mentioned that Zoomer is happy, kind, curious, kind and clever. This is the new way where children can be happy enough to choose who they want to be, and what they want to be as well.
