Hundreds Of Women Just Freed Their Nipples Across The World

If there’s one thing that is rapidly losing stigma in mainstream society, it’s women being topless. Much of this is due to the Free The Nipple campaign, a gender equality movement that was created to highlight the hypocrisy and double standards that women face when it comes to baring their chests. “Freeing” the nipple shows the world that there’s no reason to make women’s breasts taboo. Now, hundreds of women in a slew of countries have participated in #FreetheNipple. Here’s what this movement is, how women participated, and why you should consider it, too. What are your thoughts on this movement? Let us know in the comments section below.

With Hope, It’ll Remove The Stigma We Deal With. It’s 2016. Stigma about breasts shouldn’t exist.

And It’s Also About Body Positivity… Because people shouldn’t feel embarrassed for having breasts or nipples of any kind.

Breasts Really Are Oversexualized. And many of the protesters said they were tired of seeing only movie stars and adult stars topless in mainstream media. They felt that society is body shaming women by forcing them to wear bras or shirts.

Now, Massive Public Protests Have Begun To Happen In Different Parts Of The World. For example, over 200 women hit Brighton Beach in protest of the double standard. Brighton Beach is currently the most popular beach in the UK.

Women Are Sick Of It. As they should be. Human bodies are NOT indecent!

Censorship Also Comes In The Form Of Shaming. It only takes a short amount of time online to see internet trolls tell girls to “cover up” and that they are “doing it for attention.”

Multiple Celebrities Have Even Spoken Out About Social Media Censorship. Girls who have gotten tired of the double standard include Willow Smith, Chelsea Handler, and Miley Cyrus.

It’s Not Just Facebook, Either. Instagram and Twitter also censor women’s breasts…even if that woman is breastfeeding.

Of Course, Arrests Aren’t The Only Thing That Women Face When Going Shirtless. Online censorship is a huge problem. While men can be shirtless in social media posts, women with exposed breasts are often censored by the actual platforms for “indecency.

The Fact Is, Most People Don’t Have An Issue With Toplessness. Even the laws show this. In 2016, New Hampshire shot down a bill that would prohibit topless sunbathing on federal beaches. It was considered to be discriminatory against women.

Most Countries Have Laws Against Women Going Topless. In the US, they’re considered to be indecent exposure laws.

Free The Nipple Is A Campaign Based On A Film. The film, directed by Lina Esco, was aired in 2014 and highlighted the inequality women face when they’re dealing with clothing. For example, women aren’t allowed to bare their chests while men are.
