Dogs are a man’s best friend. They happily greet you when you enter the door, they lick your face whenever you’re upset, and they sit on your lap whenever you’re watching TV. The attention they crave and their ‘puppy dog eyes’ are a few of the reasons why they are so endearing to nearly all humans. But cats have their own likability too. Just because they are more independent and much less likely to cuddle with you does not mean they can’t be a great best friend.
They may seem stand off-ish and only crave attention when they want it, but cats and their gracefulness and deep whirlpool-like eyes certainly emit some sort of mysticism.
And this story about a man’s pet cats is certainly bound to get you shedding some tears. The original story was posted on Reddit by a user named TravUK:
Scott Ewell is the proud owner of two male cats, Bear and Teddy. He received news that Bear passed away when he was struck by a vehicle.

As he and Teddy grieved over the loss of a precious family member, someone else was wondering where Bear had gone off to.

Both Bear and Teddy are outdoor cats. They, on a regular basis, go out through the kitty door and would roam the streets and go on adventures together.

The brothers were inseparable and loved to go out exploring.

But little did Scott know, his two cats would be spending time with another human on their little kitty escapades.

Bear and Teddy became regulars at a neighbor’s house. They would roam, make new friends, and attempt to catch mice, but it seems like the two cats took a particular liking to this specific neighbor.

Two weeks after Bear died (and still grieving), Scott received a handwritten note attached to the collar of Teddy.

With a piece of tape decorated with heart stickers and the words ‘sweet life’ written on it, the letter indicated that the two cats would visit this neighbor on a daily basis.

The note was inquiring in nature since the neighbor wanted to find out where the ‘bigger cat’ was and hoped that he was OK. It also said that they were ‘close friends’ since the brothers would visit her frequently.

It also stated that it had been two weeks since Bear was last seen at the neighbor’s apartment and that he was ‘a lovely cat’ that had ‘touched her heart.’

Moved by the letter, Scott immediately wrote back informing his neighbor that Bear had passed away and that he was so glad Bear ‘brought joy to their lives as well.’

Scott later learned that his neighbor is a Taiwanese exchange student attending a nearby university.

The neighbor (who is not named) is living by herself and would spend many hours on her own writing her university thesis.

But when Ted and Bear would come over to visit her she would read her thesis aloud to them. (I guess the cats wanted to earn a PhD.)

The neighbors have since bonded and become good friends over the two felines.

Scott loves seeing pictures of Teddy and Bear in a different atmosphere and to hear stories of their adventures when they aren’t over at his place. I guess cats can be a man and a woman’s best friend.
