Embracing Your Acne Is the Newest Beauty Trend of 2018

How long do you spend getting ready in the morning?

If you’re someone who wears makeup, you might find yourself spending quite a bit of time applying coverup and foundation to try to hide your acne or so-called “blemishes.”

Well, there’s a new beauty trend this year that could save you a lot of time if you choose to participate in it. It’s not a new facewash or gimmicky peeling facemask. Nope! Instead, the newest beauty trend is to embrace your skin exactly as it is.
As a society, we tend to find people with clear skin to be the most beautiful.

You might find yourself watching TV shows or even scrolling through Instagram and being struck by how perfect someone’s skin looks.
And when celebrities dare to appear on the red carpet with less-than-flawless skin, they often get raked over the coals.

That’s what happened when Kendall Jenner showed up to the Golden Globes with a few blemishes on her face.

People saw the acne and (for some reason) decided to call her out on it.

But then, something kind of amazing happened.
Kendall Jenner acknowledged the fact that she had acne and then…just kept on living her life.

How dare she step out of the house and go to an event where other people might see her?! It’s almost as if she’s a human being who sometimes has acne on her face, but that doesn’t make her any less of a person.

I know. It’s pretty mindblowing stuff.
Kendall Jenner isn’t the only person who’s not letting their acne keep them down. Hailey Wait is a 17-year-old artist and musician whose recent post about acne has gone viral and maybe even started a movement.

“Reminder that acne doesn’t make you ugly — a heart full of hate does,” she posted back in December.

Her message hit home with so many people. How could it not? There are very few people in the world who have never had to deal with acne. And those of us who’ve dealt with it probably haven’t felt beautiful while doing so.
But why not?

Who says that acne can’t be beautiful?

That’s why embracing your skin the way it is — no matter what bumps and “blemishes” might be there — might be the best beauty trend out there.

Wait now has more than 120,000 followers on Instagram and has encouraged others to share their own photos of what it looks like to accept and celebrate the skin you’re in…

That’s why you might see people make their own #SkinPositivity posts.

Planets everywhere lol #Skinpositivity #selfie #cute 💕💅🏽✨✨

If you ask me, any beauty trend that requires less time spent getting ready in the morning is a trend I can definitely get behind.

It’s so refreshing to see people celebrate every part of their amazing bodies (especially compared to all those super wack beauty trends people participated in last year. Christmas tree eyebrows? Really?)

hey can we all agree to just stop sending me acne advice? I know the intent is good a lot of times but if I didn’t ask, then I don’t need it. It’s just kind of insulting tbh. There’s more to me than my acne. I get thousands of messages a DAY about my acne, and I’m certain that most of you aren’t dermatologists. It’s not as simple as washing your face and drinking water. Thank you 🙂

Wait makes it clear in her posts that while she’s not ashamed of her acne, she also doesn’t want to deal with it forever.

“Cystic acne is painful, physically, and even though I still get breakouts, most of the spots I have left are just scars. I’m okay with that,” she said. “Honestly, as soon as I cut foundation out of my makeup routine and stopped giving a damn what people thought of my appearance and once I started caring more about my overall happiness and wellbeing, it started to improve drastically.”

“I’ve seen you skatin, you’re pretty shit” ✨ inspired by Alyssa from TEOTFW ✨ I know it’s not an exact look obviously, which is why it’s “inspired” so don’t come for mE #teotfw #alyssa

She’s also written about how annoying it is to get endless advice from the supposed “experts” of the Internet of how to deal with her acne.

“I know the intent is good a lot of times but if I didn’t ask, then I don’t need it,” she said in one post. Preach, girl!

Improvement should always be something to strive for. If you aren’t changing, that means you aren’t learning or growing. It’s ok to change. ✨

“Whether you have acne or not, ur damn fine ok and you deserve love!!!” she wrote in another post. “Both can be beautiful.”

Got that? You deserve love no matter what your skin looks like!

Dear @kendalljenner, From one woman with acne to another, thanks for having the courage to stick your middle finger up 🖕🏻 at the petty minded idiots of the world 💁🏼‍♀️. When @kyliejenner called me to talk about my acne, all things skin, and how social media can make you feel – she mentioned how proud she was of YOU for dealing with your skin in the public eye… and girl 👏🏻 you’re a rock star 🌟 💁🏼‍♀️. Acne is a massive insecurity for people all over, and I truly believe that the only way to truly alleviate these worries, insecurities and fears, is to have more women like yourself, who live their life with a kickass IDGAF attitude about their acne and talk about how completely normal it is 👊🏻. I strongly believe that the more we talk about these things, the less taboo these conversations will become… The less judgmental we become of others. And the less insecure we become of ourselves. So Kendall 🙌🏻 thanks for kicking ass 🙌🏻 you looked freaking fabulous. Em x

Personally, I can’t wait to see this #SkinPositivity movement really take off. It’s time for all of us to stop trying to change every single little thing about our bodies and instead focus on, you know, being good people.
